The Balance - Chapter 42
After eating and drinking everything, Hazel laid very still on the bed, staring at the dome-shaped ceiling. The memories of everything that happened playing over and over in her head. She was riding on a horse past the running guards. She charged at the woman, who took the sword out of her hand with a swift move. A searing pain shot across her back. The image of her scar flashed before her eyes. Everything was in slow motion as she saw it. An evil voice began to whisper as she kept staring at her scar.
"You are mine...you belong to me...you belong in my power, crowned by my power, clothed in my power."
"Feel the wrath...let it

The Balance - Chapter 41
After the long, stressful hours of before getting the cursed scar and after, Hazel was sent to bed in a new room. It was much nicer than the room with the small bed from before. The room was rectangular, except for the right wall, which was curved and had six tall windows that came to a sharp point at the top. Torches were on the walls between each window. A large dark animal skin lay at the foot of the bed on the opposite wall. Transparent black drapes hung around the bed, giving it a royal yet ominous look.
Hazel was sitting on the bed cringing as Adron stitched the cut on her arm rather forcefully, angry with the King for lying

"Nila, Nisha, bring me cold cloths. Hurry!" Asra ordered.
Nila and Nisha hurried out of the room.
"Your majesty, is it worthy of a healing potion?" Adron asked.
"Of course it is, have you not seen it?" the King said sharply.
"No, your majesty."
Everyone was quiet again. A tiny chain clinking against itself was heard from where the King stood. He turned around with the tiny teardrop bottle of healing potion, connected with a chain as thin as a necklace.
He took a few steps toward Hazel and stopped, "Asra."
Asra turned around and got up when she saw what he was holding. She took it from him and returne

The crowd filled a room full of many beds made of logs. The two guards laid Hazel down on one in a corner. One of them whistled and pointed to her. Three servants came over to her bedside. The only three servants she knew. Nila, Nisha, and Asra.
"Hazel?" they exclaimed, startled.
"What happened? Why are so many guards hurt?" Nila asked
Hazel stared off towards the other side of the bed, "it's my fault," she whispered.
"You say that too much. You say it and it's not true, I won't believe it," Asra spoke softly.
"You know that someone is after me," Hazel began, but was interrupted by Asra.

Hazel looked up at the King. Then, she finally realized something that seemed too strange to be natural. His eyes. They glowed a soft white.
"I must ask you, when you gave in to the power of hate, did it change your eyes?"
"Yes."
"Then, why was no one was suspicious that something happened?"
"You think they weren't suspicious that my eyes were fine one moment and were glowing the next? I had to lie; I told them that it happens when an immortal is given a kingdom. My servants believed me first because they saw my scars had also changed.

"It was the blue aura again, wasn't it? The same one that healed me."
"And if it is?"
"Where did it come from?"
"Why should you know?"
"Because it can heal, Hazel. It could heal my wounded warriors, the ill, and the starving, that is unless you don't want to help them?"
All eyes were on Hazel.
"That...aura...will help your subjects differently. But, I need it for it to do so."
"What is "differently"?"
"I don't know yet, but I know it will help them; everyone."
"Everyone? As in, also people from the Kingdom of Light?"

When Hazel was back in the castle, she was taken back to the room where Adron had been dragged away by guards. She had secretly brought the orb with her. She lay on the bed, trying to keep her thoughts about that woman out of her mind, but she still couldn't believe that she hated someone. It seemed so wrong to hate someone, but she felt as if she was supposed to hate her.
As Hazel was thinking, the doors opened. Nila and Nisha entered the room carrying what looked to be rolls of cloth and big wood sticks.
"Where's Asra?" Hazel asked them.
"She's with Adron," Nisha said, approaching her bedside.
"What is all that

The horses's galloping from behind her grew stronger and stronger until it stopped right behind her. Hazel closed her eyes, trying to resist the pain. She heard the King get off his horse and walk closer to her.
"Why are you so determined to go somewhere so dangerous?"
Hazel couldn't speak, so she spoke through her mind, "why are you so determined to not let me go there?
"I asked you first," the King said quickly.
"It isn't dangerous. In fact it seems less dangerous than this place for me."
The King hesitated before he said, "how so?"

After running through several hallways and up several stairs, Hazel accidentally ran back to the room which the blue orb was kept safe. In an instant, she decided what to do. Grabbing the orb and her wolf skin clothes, she hurried out the door and hurried down several flights of stairs until she was face-to-face with a familiar door. The door that lead to the stables where she saw the Dark Army for the first time. Hazel creaked the door open and was greeted by snowflakes, but no one was in sight. Slowly opening the door, Hazel stepped out into the cold and closed the door quietly behind her. Then, she hid behind the same stack of hay bal

"How long was I asleep?" Hazel asked drowsily, "its been hours, hasn't it?"
"No, no — minutes. Just a few minutes," Asra paused as tears began rolling down her face, "A-Adron — it's too late — we can't do anything — the doors are locked!"
"Asra!" Hazel almost shouted.
Asra stared red-faced at Hazel.
